What is meant by Complementary and Alternative Therapies?

  Integrative medicine is also known as complementary medicine. Complementary and Alternative Medicine (C.A.M) is a treatment outside of mainstream healthcare. These treatments range from acupuncture, herbalism, homeopathy, aromatherapy, meditation, colonic irrigation, etc.

  Complementary therapy includes acupuncture, dietary supplements, massage therapy, hypnosis, and meditation. For example, acupuncture might be used with certain drugs to minimize cancer pain or nausea and vomiting.

Alternative Therapies and Complementary Therapies differ significantly.

  People often use the terms complementary therapy and alternative therapy as if they mean the same thing. Unfortunately, these 2-terms are, often combined into one phrase – complementary and alternative therapies (C.A.M’s).
